Lakes Hotel putting Locals First with Off Season Supper Club

There’s a nip of Autumn in the air and with some attractions closing their doors until spring, or some sadly closing for good, one of South Lakeland’s oldest hospitality venues is scheduling purposely pocket-friendly autumn and winter supper evenings, designed to offer off-season local residents, workers and visitors opportunities to socialise and stay connected over a quality value meal.

Established as a coaching inn at the end of the 17th century, The Swan Hotel and Spa at Newby Bridge has provided hospitality, comfort and inspiration for locals and passing travellers enchanted by its picturesque location on the banks of the river Leven, at the foot of Lake Windermere, for over 300 years.

Now a much-loved venue for visitors and locals alike, the hotel’s off-season ‘Thursday Supper Club’ offers a selection of mains and Thursday-only fresh seasonal specials with an inclusive drink. While keeping prices affordable, this is no collection of leftovers. Planned to run all autumn and winter as an affordable option in difficult times, the menu will vary every week, giving regulars plenty of new options to try.

“We recognised that many of our neighbours may be feeling the pinch, so we decided to offer a delicious, home-cooked meal with a drink in a relaxed setting for locals” says The Swan’s marketing manager, Becky Edmondson. “We’re aiming for Thursday Supper Club to feel like a mid-week treat which still fits within everyone’s budget.”

Kicking off with a ‘burger and a bevvy’ night, the kitchen team enjoyed creating four brand-new burgers to choose from. Customers can book in advance, just drop in, or sign up to be alerted to the next week’s menu. Offering an inclusive soft drink and non-alcoholic options, it’s also designed to be “school-night friendly” and safe for those working, or driving home.

With many in the hospitality industry facing tough times, The Swan’s commitment to providing affordable, quality food and drink helps secure their commitment as a significant local employer. By creating a relaxed space where everyone can come together, share a meal, and take a break from the stresses of the week, Becky and the team are also hoping to combat off-season isolation that can easily creep in.

“It’s been great that people are already excitedly anticipating Thursdays, not just for the food, but to meet old friends and make new ones,” she says. “In uncertain and changing times, it’s a reminder that there are many reasons to gather, laugh, and support one another. We’re proud to continue offering a place where the community can feel at home, no matter what’s happening outside- including the Cumbrian weather!”
